The baby from Nirvana’s Nevermind album turns twenty-five years old today in line with the album’s anniversary.

Nirvana’s Nevermind album originally debuted on September 24, 1991 when it eventually sold about 24 million copies worldwide. This album was the second release of the band but the first to feature drummer Dave Grohl. More importantly, Nevermind introduced the world to their popular song “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

In honor of the anniversary, TIME found the grown-up baby from the album’s cover. Although Spencer Elden took part in the shoot at only a few months old, the world eventually saw him on one of the most popular rock albums. According to the account, photographer Kirk Weddle asked Elden’s father to use their son for the shoot. At the time, Elden’s father originally assisted Weddle in constructing the sets and photographing infants in a swimming class. However, Weddle eventually used the photo of Elden for the cover.

Unfortunately, Elden’s parents only received $200 for the infamous cover after a fifteen-minute shoot. Now, Elden lives in Los Angeles with his mother and works creating art in his spare time. “Looking back, it feels kind of stupid doing interviews about it, because I had nothing to do with it, but a lot to do with it all at the same time,” says Elden, now 25. “It’s a really weird feeling being a part of someone else’s momentum—being caught up in this wake of stuff.”

Elden never met the remaining two members of Nirvana, Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Likewise, Dave Grohl never met Elden during or after the shoot. Grohl admitted in 2013 “I’ve never met him. We weren’t there the day that they did the photo shoot, so I don’t know. I’ve seen him in magazines and stuff.”
