In a recent episode, Alex Trebek insults contestant on Jeopardy! for having a “nerdy” hobby.

On the Wednesday October 12 episode of Jeopardy!, Trebek continued the show’s tradition of introducing the contestants. However, with Susan Cole, a legislative librarian from Bowie, Maryland, the tone grew more awkward on the topic. This time around, the introduction to Cole surrounded a musical activity.

“Her favorite type of music is something I’ve never heard of, but it doesn’t sound like fun,” Trebek began as Cole described her hobby. “I think it’s very fun,” Cole insisted. “It’s called nerdcore hip-hop.” She continued to describe her hobby as nerds “rapping about the things they love — video games, science fiction, having a hard time meeting romantic partners.”

Although Cole enjoyed her hobby, Trebek quickly jabbed in referring to them as “Losers, in other words.” Following that comment, Cole visibly stuttered before laughing and responding “Sure.” Nevertheless, Trebek clarified that he was only teasing the contestant before returning to the game.

Unfortunately, social media users following the show did not take it that way. After the episode aired, various Twitter users openly condemned Trebek for mocking “nerds.” “Alex Trebek on #Jeopardy calling nerds ‘losers’ is the STUPIDEST thing I’ve ever heard. Those ‘losers’ GIVE YOU A JOB,” one Twitter user commented. Another Twitter added  “What the hell were you thinking, Alex Trebek? You should have been nerdcore’s hero but now we have to destroy you.” Throughout the Internet, user noted the irony of Trebek calling “nerds” “losers” considering Jeopardy!‘s reputation for intelligent viewers.

Despite the now trending video of “Alex Trebek Insults Contestant,” Susan Cole continued the game to win first place. Her earnings totaled $20,600.
